I know the Summer Olympics are around the corner, but the image of Alpine skiing comes to mind as we stand here on the downhill slope to the end of the year! Hopefully, the first six months have been productive and you’ve kept on top of your goals by monitoring your activities and working on them daily.
Even if that’s not the case, don’t worry I can assure you that you are not alone.
What I would like to do is help you refocus your attention and, if necessary redefine your goals so that the second half of the year will take you all the way to victory.
Between now and year’s end we have to navigate Fourth of July celebrations, the Summer Olympics in Brazil, Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving before we get to Christmas. The year is packed with so many opportunities to celebrate that it gets easier this time of year to lose sight of our goals when all the festivities kick in.
So, whatever your goal is, whether to lose 5, 10, 15 or more pounds before the holiday season arrives or whether it is to stop smoking or to launch that business you’ve always dreamed or start your search for that job that will take you to the next level in your career, it’s a great time to sharpen your focus and your resolve.
The next six months are going to whiz by whether you are working toward your goal or not, so might as well make it count!
We often lose sight of the big picture when we’re busy with day-to-day issues. Why not take a little time, maybe just an hour or two, maybe even less to reflect on your goals and dreams for this year? With six full months remaining in which to achieve them, even if you don’t make it all the way this year, if you keep working and taking the smallest steps you’ll get there eventually. And that’s way better than stopping mid-way. You can decide to make your goals smaller for the remainder of this year, and expand them next year. Anything that will make you feel good about yourself and shows that you are progressing is what is most important. It’s not pass or fail. There is no failure. One of my favorite Rumi sayings is about embarking on the path of spirituality. He says, “There are only two rules on the spiritual path: begin and continue.” The same could be said of your goals.
If you need a little morale boost or refresher on the power of the mind, I put together a special, free 3-Part Video training series that is getting rave reviews. You can check it out here http:///www.LindaAllred.com/onething. Or you can call someone you’re comfortable working with. Take a local course or simply talk with a good friend if you think that will help you get back on track. Whether your goal is to lose weight, start a new business or start charging what you’re worth for your time, this is a good time to take another step in the right direction.
